posts from onecube

and then you kissed me {0}

it happens often. I hold the camera in my hand. my finger touches the button. I hear that click noise and know it’s too late. a random picture is being ejected from the camera.

most of the time, those are over exposed. I have a pretty pile of them because I can’t get myself to throw them away. beauty is everywhere. and sometimes, in places you don’t expect it to be. a couple of marker pen lines later, here is the result. love*love.

I will let you in {0}

I think I want to paint one of the walls of my bedroom with this beautiful pattern. so pretty. I love it.
and on another note, I really feel like buying colour felt-tip pens. maybe I’ll visit the book shop tomorrow. many loely colourful days ahead.

by the way, I’ve decided to file all the things I make myself under the onecube category. I just feel so bad for this poor little category that stands at the end of the list.

thirtysix.five in black on white {0}

awaken by four am, and unable to fall asleep since then. I had that strange feeling of emptiness, until I realised which day we are.
this whole situation left me unarmed, and definitely liveless. uninspired.
quite luckily, I came across my winter 07 notebook, and it only took a couple of page-turns for me to grab my favourite papermate felt-tip black pen to quickly turn my thoughts into a slow-motion picture.

now, I feel reposed. still sad, but knowing tomorrow will be better; and today, over. anyway, I think the onecube project has come to an end, one month after it first started.
it gave me the chance to create and share. and that was priceless. I won’t stop posting around here, just in a different form. no more daily projects. just my day; with some kind of art when appropriate. I really enjoyed putting the last few posts together.

and I hope you find them inspiring and beautiful; since it feels so good and relaxing - for me - to show you pieces of my days.

quieter {one}

since I can hardly move from my bed because of a lovely strep throat, I thought I would share little moments from my day, instead of the usual crafty pieces.
and I do truly think it’ll be this way around here until I recover. and when my body temperature will finally be normal (fingers crossed), this type of articles will be posted in the pretty days category.

I made myself some hot chocolate with cinnamon. it was so yummy and comforting.

materials
:: one cup of milk
:: a couple of squares of high quality dark chocolate
:: a pinch of cinnamon, ground with my mortar and pestle

and I sipped it as I was flipping through this sweet little book I bought in Paris for eight euros.
some of the images in there are so very inspiring and beautiful and colourful.

quiet {one}

after starting my day work quite early, I’ve had no choice but go back to bed because of a much unwanted pain. only to wake up six hours later; and finding that the sun had gone down already.
as you might guess, the day was spent quietly, between my bed and wood table. I didn’t do much, except read and find some new recipes to make.

the melon was suprisingly good. from France. sweet. and very juicy.
the sky was invaded by thousands of birds, enjoying the finally summerish temperatures.
the light reflection on the cars parked down in the street looked pretty.

vanilla and apricot slice {0}

I made one lovely cake topped with apricots my grand-mother canned in light syrup last year. it was delicious and I didn’t even photographed the finished cake.
you’ll have to take my words for granted.

as you might guess, the recipe comes from Bill Granger, who happens to be a surprisingly good source for baking.

materials
:: 180g butter, softened
:: 170g caster sugar
:: 3 eggs
:: seeds from one vanilla pod
:: 185g flour
:: 1 tsp baking powder
:: a pinch of salt
:: 60ml milk
:: 14 apricots, pitted and halved

et je t’escaladerais {0}

I’m working on a series of coloured moutains. all being different from one another. here is the brown one.

materials
:: daler rowney archival paper 220g/m²
:: daler rowney water soluble colour pencils
:: pin

size
:: 8 x 10 in

botanical seasons {0}

here is the project I was talking about yesterday. I’m obsessed with planches botaniques and herbiers, and thought it would be lovely to create modern (read flat-colour) botanical sheets.
and the first obviously had to be an illustration of my favourite flower: lilly of the valley. here is a sneak-peek of it!

materials
:: pencil
:: regular paper sheets
:: adobe illustrator cs3

cahier de recettes {0}

I love week ends. plenty of time to turn the week’s ideas into real projects. right now I’m working on some time-consuming digitally-coloured pencil drawings - which you might have a sneak-peak of tomorrow.

and since I’m so busy, today’s creation was really simple, yet so very useful: a recipe notebook in which I wrote down my favourite recipes.

materials
:: ruled moleskine notebook
:: papermate felt-tip pen

dis moi oui {0}

wanted to try something very different from what I usually make. digital collage. I used pieces from both the internet and my own collection.
while I’m not happy with the result at all, it made me want to collect more papers and other stuff to include them in collages - either digital or real.
